What is Product Liability Insurance?
Product liability insurance is designed to cover the cost of compensation to anyone who is injured, or whose property is damaged by a faulty product. If you design, manufacture, sell or supply a physical product then you may be held responsible if the product be deemed faulty, cause an injury or damage to a property.
Do I need Product Liability?
It is not a legal requirement to have Products Liability, however it is always good practice for a company in the Manufacturing, Wholesale or Retail sectors to make sure they are covered against any claims made against them. Products Liability Insurance will protect your business in the event of a claim made against the product they have sold, designed or manufactured.

The cost of this type of cover ranges greatly, and is entirely bespoke to your business needs. DPI Insurance provide a free risk assessment to identify the most cost effective way in which to insure your entire business.

Products Liability Claims Examples
Suspect labelling: An advocate for animal rights who is a strict vegetarian brought a claim against a company that manufactures nutritional supplements claiming battery and consumer fraud. The claimant alleges the packaging of the supplement fraudulently states that its nutritional supplement is vegetarian, when it actually contains animal products or by-products. The claimant threatened to file a class action suit against many companies engaged in false labelling. The claim is being settled.
Hair remover carried an unpleasant extra: A company that makes a facial hair remover received a claim from a woman who purchased its product. The claimant alleges mucous formed in her eye and that her eyelid became discoloured from the product. The insured company denies the mucous and discoloration were caused by application of their product, and maintains it was the result of some unrelated infection. Settlement is being explored.
No fun in the tank: A claim was filed against the manufacturer of a “dunk tank” game used at carnivals. A church group leased the game for its annual carnival. While in use, the game malfunctioned and injured the person sitting inside the tank. The claim is pending.
